The Punching Bag called Sri Lanka

The ‘Productivity’ of the so called ‘war’ has not ended. At first the so called ‘war’ spawned a breed of carpet baggers known as `conflict resolutionists’ who made a literal ‘killing’ off the war. They were closely accompanied by members of the so called ‘Tamil Diaspora’ who, from the safety of the foreign countries in which they lived, encouraged the continuation of the violence in Sri Lanka from which Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Burghers and all others who were resident in Sri Lanka suffered. Today, we see another breed which has been in the news for quite sometime and have now come into prominence. They are those who are termed ‘human rights’ and ‘international human rights law experts’. Their latest `two cents worth’ is a report headed “Island of Impunity” running into over 200 pages submitted by an Australian NGO.

Whoever these so called ‘experts’ are they have one thing in common. Whether or not they are possessed of any kind of expertise in any field of the law, they are proven experts at purporting to find little Sri Lanka which defeated a bunch of terrorists called the LTTE in May 2009 and made the Country a relatively safe place in which to live, guilty of the most heinous of atrocities upon the alleged evidence of so called witnesses whose identities they refuse to divulge!!

In the midst of all this they accuse Sri Lanka of not investigating allegations of alleged ‘war crimes’. How is one expected to investigate alleged ‘war crimes’ if the alleged witnesses thereto remain anonymous and unknown to the authorities in Sri Lanka? These are questions about which the so called `experts’ do not care to dwell on or enter into a discussion!!!

There are other things in common between the latest crop of so called `experts’ and their predecessors, and that is that they seek to give some appearance of fair play to their reports by contending ‘secondarily’ that LTTE ‘also’ committed certain atrocities. For a supporter of the so called `cause’ of the LTTE, it is no doubt a safe thing to say at this stage that the LTTE is also guilty of war crimes, in as much as most of the Tiger leaders are now dead and cannot be called upon to answer the allegations against them.

The members of the TNA and the Roman Catholic Clergymen including Bishops who abetted the Tigers however are very much alive. They can be taken to task; they can be called to account. How is it that none of these so called ‘experts’ recommends any kind of investigation or makes any kind of condemnation of the conduct of these blackguards ???

They for example, do not utter a word about Suresh Premachandran MP, a founder member of the EPRLF who narrowly escaped death at the hands of the LTTE by being either late for a Politbureau meeting of his then party the EPRLF at Chennai or having left that meeting early. The fact that that was a meeting at which the entire Politbureau of that Party except Premachandran were murdered by the LTTE whom he later supported is a very well known fact. Premachandran is alive but none of these reports mention him - why? Similarly, Premachandran also never speaks of or seeks a commemoration of the deaths of his erstwhile colleagues in the Politbureau of the EPRLF, a party he was instrumental in founding with Pathmanabah (who was one of those who were foully murdered at that meeting by the LTTE). This would have been a strange circumstance if it was not so common among the supporters of the Tigers.

There is then the TNA of which Premachandran claims to be a member. There is no mention of the part played by the TNA in promoting, supporting and strengthening the LTTE both within and without the Country – with of course free travel, board and lodging, provided by their partners in crime, namely, the so called Tamil Diaspora. These frauds called the Tamil National Alliance never commemorated the murders by the LTTE of any of their leaders including Amirthalingam and Neelan Tiruchelvam. To them, obviously, the LTTE could do no wrong. While the LTTE was or appeared to be ‘winning’, the TNA was solidly behind it and contended that the LTTE were the sole representatives of the Tamil people. Today however they seek to distance themselves from the LTTE without making an outright condemnation of the atrocities committed by them.

It is more than passing strange and indeed incriminatory of these so called experts that not one of them raised a voice of protest or condemned the LTTE for the mass murders of Sinhalese, Muslims and Tamils committed by them at various times; for creeping into villages inhabited by Sinhalese and Muslim by night and murdering the sleeping inhabitants thereof; for murdering Sinhalese and Muslims for the ‘crime’ of being Muslims and Sinhalese in their fields and in buses etc. None of these so called experts ever condemned the LTTE or called for investigations about them at the time when the LTTE was kidnapping little Tamil children for slave labour in their terrorist cadres. The TNA too made no attempt to put a stop to these atrocities. Strange is it not that the TNA now calls loudly for international condemnation of the Government of Sri Lanka for its conduct in the last days of the war made no similar appeal to anybody including the so called Tamil Diaspora at a time when the Tigers were kidnapping little Tamil children and committing other atrocities against the Tamil People whom the TNA purports to serve. This would have been terribly strange if there was any trace of a fragment of genuineness in what these opportunistic politicians of the TNA are doing and have done. However, there having been not even a trace of a semblance of genuineness in them, there is nothing strange about this conduct. Perhaps the best proof of the absolute hypocrisy and fraudulent nature of the TNA and these so call `experts’ lies in the fact that not one of them has seen fit to condemn India for arming and training terrorists to commit acts of terrorism within Sri Lanka and/or the United States of America and Great Britain for committing what is indisputably one of the greatest ‘war crimes’ ever committed in the history of the human species, namely the invasion of Iraq and subsequent murders of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis on the fraudulent pretext that there were in that Country weapons of mass destruction; and/or the impunity with which the United States of America murders residents of foreign countries on their soil using unmanned aircraft called drones and/or how they sent a gang of heavily armed murderers to enter Pakistan [a so called `ally’ of the USA] secretively and equally illegally, and murder a resident therein named Osama Bin Laden – [evidently Bin Laden was found `guilty’ and executed by the Executive of America which played the triple role of `Prosecutor’, `Judge’ and `Executioner’]; these so called experts have also remained totally mum about the supportive role played by the once ‘Great’ Britain acting as a lapdog of the murderers of the United States of America.

The total lack of concern of both these so called ‘experts’ and the TNA for human rights is to be found in the fact that there is not one word of condemnation by them of India for lending its support to Indian burglars who steal the livelihood of indigent Tamil fishermen both current and for generations to come by trespassing on our territorial waters, stealing our fish and using the illegal fishing practice of `bottom trawling’. The TNA too, which purports to represent the Tamil people including Tamil fishermen have not dared to raise a voice against India. By the same token these so called experts have maintained a deafening silence about the role played by the Roman Catholic Bishops and the clergymen in promoting and supporting the LTTE throughout their murderous careers. In particular, one finds a deafening silence by them about the part played by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Mannar, Rayappu Joseph. In the midst of all this fraudulent conduct these so called ‘experts’ have shown their manifest bias by failing and/or refusing to acknowledge any of the manifest good deeds done by the Sri Lankan State and of its Armed Forces by, for example, rescuing about 300,000 Tamil civilians held captive by the LTTE in Mullaitivu; by those Tamil civilians who were sought to be used as human shields by the LTTE escaping into Government controlled territory and depositing in Banks over Rs.300 Million which they had brought with them in bundles of cash which were wrapped in newspaper and MAKING NOT EVEN ONE COMPLAINT AGAINST OUR TROOPS FOR STEALING EVEN ONE RUPEE OF IT; by not realizing and/or recognizing the sacrifices made by the members of the armed forces on behalf of the Tamil civilians and the People of this Country in general; by sacrificing life and limb for that cause.
Sri Lanka is an impoverished Country and a small Country; and just as much as the impoverished, the poor and the lowly have little chance in life against the rich and the powerful when they turn against them, so also have we little chance when the rich and the powerful Countries gang up against us. What is happening to Sri Lanka is the same scenario being enacted on the international stage. Let us however not lose heart and fight these foreign murderers and frauds to the best of our ability - but for this, we must first be united casting aside our political and ethnic differences. Will that day ever dawn ???
