Existing drains unparallel to road level

By Siri Mahabellana and kusal chamath
The side drains constructed about a month ago, along the Galle-Colombo main road at Pinwatta in Panadura are now being demolished much to the anxiety of the area residents.
The side drains had been constructed under the current road development project.A senior official supervising the project said that the side drains were constructed before effecting improvements to the road, and that the road level is found to have been unparallel to the side drains. He pointed out that it would prevent the free flow of storm water from the road into the side drains.  However, he attributed the fault to the contractors of the project. Residents of the area expressed concern about the poor supervision of the project that had resulted in a colossal waste of public funds.
