An injunction would be sought in court on the illegal surveys of lands in the Northern Province, Chief Minister of the Northern Province C.V. Wigneswaran said yesterday. He was speaking at a function where dry rations were distributed among the Women headed households at the Sabapathypillai Welfare Centre at Chunnakam.
“Under the Land Acquisition Act, lands belonging to the general public can be acquired only for public use,” he said.
“It cannot be acquired in a haphazard manner for military occupation. The Army should exit from the North and we are in the process of calling for an injunction through the court to stop the illegal land surveys,” he said. “The government is keen only on infrastructure development and is not concerned about the welfare of the people affected by the war or enhancing their livelihood.
