A woman who defrauded money from several individuals on the promise of employment opportunities in Canada was arrested on a tip off last Friday by the Special Investigation Unit of Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).
During the raid, the officers recovered a stock of agreement papers, applications and other documents needed to send employees to Canada.
The SLBFE said the woman who was identified as a resident at Grey Line Park in Ekala had posted several social media advertisements promising employment opportunities in Canada.
It said the woman concerned had been operating the foreign employment agency ‘Work International’ from Borella sans valid registration with the SLBFE.
Under interrogation, the suspect revealed that she worked for an individual by the name of Niyas. The SLBFE said it was conducting investigations to arrest the said individual.
The suspect was remanded till June 7 after being produced before the Borella Additional Magistrate.
