The Prisons Department today said that all prisons in the country will cease to permit visitors from today onwards, in order to prevent the coronavirus from spreading. Commissioner of Prisons (Administration) Bandula Jayasinghe said no outsiders would be allowed to visit the inmates in prisons across the country, for a period of two weeks.
He said measures would also be taken to keep prisoners and others separately inside the courts when they are brought to courts.
