Prisons officers fired shots into the air when three inmates, a Nigerian and two Pakistanis, attempted to escape from the prisons custody while they were being brought to the Negombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

According to a prisons official, three suspects were brought to the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning and two of them had escaped jumping over the parapet wall of the courts while the other suspect who attempted to escape was apprehended within the court premises.

The two suspects who fled were also later apprehended by the prisons officers with the assistance of the public and the police personnel who were on duty at the police post in the court premises.
