Two members of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) engaged in the distribution of essential food items to low income families within the city, are alleged to have demanded a share from such items, a fellow council member charged yesterday.
This CMC member who did not wish to be named told the Daily Mirror that the two members who happened to be husband and wife have demanded some of the stuff given to a woman who was going back home after receiving her pack. The woman had then raised her voice questioning why these CMC members were trying to forcibly get a share out of a pack. A while later other recipients had also complained that the members had demanded a share from their relief packs.
Later it was alleged that these two members had demanded such stuff from recipients and sold them.
The CMC began the distribution of essential items with the help of council members on Wednesday.
