Northern Province Governor Suren Raghavan is to appoint a committee to identify alternative lands to be occupied by the army and the police in Jaffna in place of the private lands currently used by them.
It was reported that special attention was being paid to release lands belonging to 1,800 families in the Palali east and lands belonging to 431 families in Myliddy to their original owners. This was decided at a discussion held at the Jaffna District Secretariat yesterday.
President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed that action be taken to release the private lands used by the army and the police in Jaffna where ever possible.
It was also reported that attention was being focused on releasing the lands near the Nadeswara College railway line on the request of
the governor.
