Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said yesterday that UNP MP Minister Ranjan Ramanayake should apologize Mahasangha for his remarks that Bhikkhus were involved in homosexuality. Addressing a function in Ratmalana, he said the clergy could be found only in Buddhism and Catholicism. He said there were Moulavis or Imams in Islam, and Kovil custodians in Hinduism.

He said Bhikkhus were subjected to the law of the country. He said it was not appropriate to discuss the code of conduct of Bhikkhus by politicians in this manner.

“If any Bhikkhu is involved in any crime, the Buddhist religious authority has a judicial mechanism. It is unbecoming of politicians making such remarks against Bhikkhus seeking cheap publicity for them in social media platforms,” he said.
