Three dead, five injured due to adverse weather

Three people died while five were injured due to the adverse weather prevailing in the country, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
The DMC said 1812 people from 482 families had been affected.
Death of three individuals of Welimada in Badulla district was caused by heavy rainfall. Two individuals were injured in the same area due to persisting weather conditions. Moreover two individuals in Wariyapola in Kurunegala and one individual from Doluwa in Gampola were injured due to high wind conditions and lightening respectively. The heavy rainfall with lightning has caused floods and rock falling in some areas in the country. People in some areas of Central, Uva and North Western provinces have been severely affected. Moreover 20 houses had been destroyed and 418 houses had been partially damaged due to the weather conditions.
Meanwhile, National Meteorological Department predicts the possibility of afternoon thundershowers being high over most parts of the island. Showers or thundershowers will occur in Eastern and Southern provinces during the morning and evening. Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Northwestern, Western and Uva provinces and in Mannar district.
