A stock of 239 kilos of Kerala ganja smuggled from India was seized in transit and two suspects arrested by the Palai police during a raid in the Uduthurai area of Jaffna in the early hours of last morning.
Police said they carried out the raid on intelligence received from the Sri Lanka Navy. Under interrogation the suspects revealed that the trade value of the stock of contraband was about Rs.50 million.
Investigations revealed that the suspects were transporting the stock of ganja to the south. The suspects were to be produced before Kilinochchi magistrate. A police team under OIC Palai police SI Wijesiri and SI Thirimanna had carried out the raid.
