A student of Peradeniya University has been arrested and remanded for spreading false information on social media on the COVID-19, police said today.
The suspect, who is a leading member of the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) was arrested yesterday for spreading false information on social media claiming that the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University had been allocated to treat VIPs for COVID-19.
The suspect, has been ordered remanded until April 9, he said.
The spokesman also requested public not to share or forward any information which cannot be verified.
