The House on Wednesday granted an extension period to the Parliament Select Committee (PSC) appointed to probe Easter Sunday attack till September 30, in order to complete its final report.

The committee was appointed by a resolution passed in parliament on May 22, 2019 to submit a report to parliament on the terrorist attacks that took place in different places on April 21, 2019.

JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake asked if the purpose behind the extension was to delay the final report of the committee, he said the PSC had decided to summon President Maithripala Sirisena before the committee. When asked whether committee had informed the President about it. he said “We learnt that the Committee had decided to summon the President but he had not been informed about it. We want to know if he was informed about it, and if not, why,” he asked.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said he would inform the matter to the Chairman of the Committee.
