One kilo and 78grams of heroin had been found in a shanty complex which had been demolished on the Maradana Courts Road during a raid by the Colombo Central Divisional Crime Investigation Unit early yesterday morning.
Police said the heroin was handed over to the Maradana Police for further investigations and is due to be produced at the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Excise Department said a suspect was arrested with another one kilo of heroin worth over Rs. 10 million hidden in a house in the Vadukkoddai in Kayts, Jaffna.
It is suspected that the heroin was smuggled from India by sea to be distributed to the Southern parts of
the country.
The 50-year old suspect was remanded till April 14 after being produced in the Mallakam Court.
