Muslims should take a voluntary decision to refrain from wearing the face veil and to do away with the Islamic law, MP Dilan Perera said yesterday during an adjournment debate in Parliament on Easter Sunday attacks.
“It is better if Islamic religious leaders and Muslim parliamentarians discuss giving up certain garments such as the face veil and abolishing Muslim courts without waiting for the government to do so. This country should only have one judicial system. I have always defended Muslims when they have been threatened. Both the government and the SLPP are attacking me for taking such a stance,” he said.
