A woman who deserted her three-year-old daughter and five-month-old son at a temple in Koslanda was taken into custody by Koslanda Police.
The police said that investigations had revealed that the 28-year-old woman from Baseline Road, Colombo had been married to an individual of Koslanda and living with her husband in his house.
“After an altercation with her husband over a family dispute she had left home with her two children on Wednesday (29) and lodged for the night at the preaching hall of the Koslanda Sri Ariyawansharama Temple with permission of the Chief Incumbent,” an officer said.
However, in the morning Ven. Thera visited the preaching hall to find only the two children fast asleep and their mother missing. On his information, the police initiated investigations and took charge of the two children.
Police said that during investigations they arrested the mother who had fled to Nikapotha and that her husband would be arrested soon. A Police team under OIC Koslanda Police IP Ratnasiri Bandara is conducting investigations.
