The Civil Security Department has decided to launch a programme to cultivate lime plants in the areas frequented by wild elephants  along the electric elephant fence.
The Director General of the Civil Security Department Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris said that he has requested the general public and the soldiers of the Civil Security Force to cultivate the seeds of limes which are used for cooking in houses.

Civil Security personnel are deployed to protect the elephant fence and they are engaged in maintaining the elephant fence, repulse the elephants and protect the fence, Ananda Peiris said.

He further said that elephants are repelled by lime trees and it is economically profitable to plant lime trees along the elephant fence, which is 4,000 kilometres long.

He said this will be implemented as a project which is useful for the future.
