Minister of Land and Land Development S.M.Chandrasena said the Land Development Ordinance passed in 1931 would be amended to meet today’s requirements . He said the proposed amendments had already been referred for further action.
He told the media that the government had focused attention on the shortcomings in the ordinance in view of the present requirements. He pointed out that the spouse would not inherit a land granted under the Land Development Ordinance in case of the death of its owner.
The minister said officials could settle land disputes conveniently after the enactment of the new piece of legislation.
