While claiming that the government camp had created the fake Facebook page called “JVP Parisarawediyo” which was cited by the President as publishing fake news, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday they lodged a complaint with the CID against this fake FB page.
He told a news conference that the President accused the JVP of spreading false news on environmental destruction, citing a Facebook page called “JVP Parisarawediyo” during a “Gama Samaga Pilisandarak” programme on Saturday. Mr. Dissanayake said they were aware of this fake page that was publishing photos of environmental destruction in other countries and added that it was a move to suppress the environmental destruction in Sri Lanka. He said the JVP requested the CID in its complaint to investigate and reveal as to who was behind creating this so-called Facebook page, when it was created and who had funded it. “This is a fake page created by the Government camp to create a wrong image of the JVP among the people. We regret the President’s Media Division being unable to identify a fake FB Page and the President being so bankrupt to cite information of a fake FB Page,” he said.
He said the President should take complete responsibility for making such a statement criticising a political party.
