The youth should develop their knowledge on Agriculture so as to become entrepreneurs said the Minister of Youth affairs and Sports- Namal Rajapakse.
The Minister said further that a massive programme was now being activated by the government to shift the country’s economy from that of a dependent economy to an economy to make it self sufficient, and the youth of today had a pivotal role to play. “Therefore it is mandatory to create a youth population that has both a technical knowledge as well as a complete knowledge of the developments in the world economy,” he said.
He said that while being in possession of the Knowledge on Agriculture, as a value added measure, an environment could be created to cater products that were needed in the World Market. “It is therefore, envisaged that improving and developing the knowledge of youth on Agriculture could lead to the change of becoming an entrepreneur and thereby make them self sufficient,” the minister said.
Minister Namal made these comments while participating at the Golden Harvesting event held at the 19th National Youth Services Council Hungama Eraminiyaya Farm Training Centre. The Minister further said that presently more than 20,000 youth were receiving training at the National Youth Services Council. “We are going to open up avenues for them to enter the Job Market without any difficulty by identifying the nerve centres of our country. Beginning from the next season,it has been decided to add value to the Agricultural efforts through projects to be developed at the Agricultural centres of the National Youth Services Council,”
