No school had been advised by the Education Ministry to collect funds to install CCTV cameras as an additional security measure, the Education Ministry said yesterday.
It said the security camera system would be installed in schools as a facility provided by the Ministry for the safety of schools. Yesterday, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam assured that CCTV cameras would be provided to leading schools free of charge and that the Government would bear the cost.
Meanwhile, the Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) Chairman Joseph Stalin and Ceylon’s Teacher Services Unions (CTSU) General Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe yesterday said that some schools had already started collecting funds for CCTV facilities.
