People living on the banks of the Gin Ganga and Nilwala Ganga in the Galle and Matara Districts have been asked to be vigilant following a minor flood situation in these regions.
“Gin Ganga and Nilwala Ganga are close to spill level as a result of heavy showers and as such people living along the banks of these two rivers should remain vigilant,” DMC Spokesman Pradeep Kodippili said. He said many of the low-lying lands in the Galle and Matara Districts had already gone under water.
The Department of Meteorology forecast that showers exceeding 150 mm would be experienced in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North Western Provinces during the next few days.
