Former President Maithripala Sirisena said Sri Lanka Freedom Party will be reorganised and led to victory at a future election to form a new government.
He said that the SLFP formed a strong government in 1994 despite its serious debacle in 1977 that reduced it to eight seats in Parliament.

He told the media in Kandy yesterday that the 14 SLFP Parliamentarians were functioning in rapport with the government in the interest of the country but it had a separate agenda as a single party.

“Scholars and intelligentsia in the country are interested to know about the future plans of the party. The SLFP founded by the former Prime Minister S.W.R.D.Bandaranaike brought revolutionized politics in the political arena in the country bringing justice to all communities. It reclaimed the lost cultural heritage and formed a government of the common man” he further said.

Senior Vice Chairman of the party Nimal Siripala De Silva, Prof. Rohana Laksman Piyadasa, Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, National Organiser Duminda Disanayake and Treasurer Lasantha Alagiyawanna and several senior office bearers of the party were present at the occasion.
