The long drawn issue on increasing the salary of estate workers would be resolved during the first few days of next month, Minister of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development, Palani Digambaram said.

He stated that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had promised during a discussion to allocate money for this purpose through a Cabinet paper.

The Minister said that Rs. 300 million out of Rs. 600 million that was required for the salary increments for the estate workers would be provided by the Plantation Industries Ministry and the balance funds would be drawn from the Treasury.

Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayake was not in agreement to provide the whole amount for this purpose, Minister Digambaram said.
