Education Minister Prof. G.L Peiris announced yesterday that with the recommendations from the Health Services Director General, all schools in the Western Province will open for Grade One to four, Grade Six to Ten and Grade 12 on April 19, while Grade five, eleven and thirteen in the Western Province will open on March 15.
He said written recommendations related to re-opening of schools in WP, has already been received by the Ministry. “There is no issue with the schools in other provinces. All grades in other schools in the country except in the WP will open on Monday,” he said.
However, the Ministry had decided to re-open schools for Grade One students on April 19.
“Although the children who were admitted to Grade One this year, did not have any chance to attend school, the Ministry has decided to start those classes on April 19,” the Minister added.
