Colombo High Court Judge Vickum Kaluarachchi yesterday imposed 18 years of rigorous imprisonment on a convict found guilty for peddling and trafficking heroin in Colombo during the year 2015.
The convict, Najimudeen Mohamed Rizvi of Wolfendhal Street Colombo was arrested by the Western Province Special Crime investigation Division with 3.2 grams of heroin in his possession at Armour Street Colombo in December 2015.
At the conclusion of the trial High Court Judge Kaluarachchi observed that the prosecution case was proven beyond reasonable doubt and imposed nine years imprisonment on each charge for trafficking and peddling heroin to the convict.
He was also imposed additional fines of Rs 225,000 for the first charge and an another Rs 200,000 on the second charge and in default imposed an additional two years imprisonment.
The Judge said that the 18 years of jail term will run concurrently within nine years.
