Drought over; Ice rain in Polonnaruwa

There was heavy rainfall with ice experienced yesterday (9) in the Welikanda area and the surrounding areas bringing to an end the dry weather conditions that prevailed during the drought in the Polonnaruwa area for the past six months.   


Residents of the area said that ice rain was also experienced to many villages including Singhapura, Magulpokuna and Welikanda.   


Farmers were suffering due to the drought in Polonnaruwa over the past six months and many areas in the Polonnaruwa District had faced an acute drinking water shortage as a result.
