A detainee in the Angunakolapelessa Prison was found dead in the psychiatric patients’ ward in the Prison hospital. The prison officials who noticed the prisoner lying motionless had taken him to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The deceased Nalagamage Nuwan Kumara (38) was a resident of Pannegamuwa in Weerawila had been arrested by the Weerawila police and had been in remand since June 21, 2018 on the charge of possessing a hand grenade.
Angunakolapelessa Magistrate Darshika Premaratne visited the hospital and held the preliminary magisterial inquiry and ordered police to refer the body to the JMO Tangalle Base Hospital for the postmortem examination.
