The brother-in-law of leading drug peddler operating from overseas ‘Welle Suranga’, has been arrested with 215 grammes of crystal Methamphetamine (Ice) in Mattakkuliya by the STF on Tuesday. The STF said the seized drug haul has a street value of over Rs.2 million.
The STF Organised Crimes Unit arrested the suspect, identified as ‘Saman’ who was an ex soldier, at his house at Samithpura in Mattakkuliya following a tip-off. The suspect was the main drug distributor of Welle Suranga. He was handed over to the Mattakkuliya Police. Investigations had revealed that Welle Suranga and his family are currently living in India and Welle Suranga is carrying out his operations from there. It was also reported that ‘Saman’ who was an expert of weapons handling had given the weapons training to Welle Suranga. STF said the raids on narcotics are being conducted under the directions of STF Commandant DIG Lionel Gunatillake.
