The Galle High Court yesterday ordered the release on bail 17 suspects including 15 police officers and two forest conservation officers who had been remanded for about one year in connection with the murder of two young men in Boossa in Galle. Galle High Court Judge W.P.S.Nissanka ordered their release on cash bail in Rs.100,000 and personnel bail in Rs.1million each with two sureties.
The suspects had been arrested by the CID and remanded on suspicion over the abduction and killing of Asela Manjula Kumara and Rasik Chinthaka of Boossa in Galle on January 23, 2019 and burning their bodies in the Kanumuldeniya forest reserve.
They were ordered to report to the Murder Investigation Unit of the CID on the last Sunday of every month and not to leave the country. The Judge further ordered that they should not be appointed to Ratgama, Akmeemana and Walasmulla police stations, if reinstated.
