The three suspects taken into custody for possessing a kilogram of heroin and other intoxicants were produced before the Matugama Chief Magistrate Dhammika Uduwevithana and remanded till May 07.
Prasad Chaturanga Kodagoda (29) of Kuruppumulla Panadura, Jayasekara Mudalige Ravishka Sanjaya( 21) of Kalayathana Road, Bandaragama and Ukkiriya Hewage Dilan Thranga(29) of National Housing Scheme, Modara, Moratuwa were the suspects remanded.
The case productions included 1kg of heroin, of which the trade value could be Rs. 10 million, 25 intoxicant tablets of which the trade value could be about Rs.500,000 six cellular phones and a locally made 3.8mm revolver that had been seized during the raid. Police told court that the suspects had rented a house to carry on the racket and that the main suspect’s wife was already in remand on the charge of drug peddling.
Sergeant 33035 Ruparatne of Welipenna Police produced the suspects in court.
OIC Kalutara Division Crime Investigation Unit IP Thilana Sanjeewa is conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASP, Matugama Division Jayasiri, SP Kalutara Division Kapila Premadasa, and DIG Vijitha Gunaratne.
