A stock of 1,616 kilos of beedi leaves had been recovered by the Navy during a search operation carried out on the Iranaithivu Island on Saturday.
The Navy said that 24 packages containing the stock of beedi leaves washed ashore to the Iranaithivu shores during a raid conducted by the North Central Naval Command.
The seized haul of beedi leaves was handed over to the Jaffna Customs for onward investigation, the Navy said.
A spokesman for the SLN said as a result of continuous operations, more than 34,000 kilos of beedi leaves had been detected within this year.
He said they would continue to tighten its grip on such activities taking place in the waters around the island.
