OLD ANANDIANS-70/75: Anandians honour teachers

To recognize 143 top achievers at the gce (a/l) 2018

 

The Old Anandians’ 70-75 group has for the 13th consecutive year organized– Nena Harasara 2018 to recognize students who excelled at the GCE (A/L) examination held in 2018 and to felicitate the members of the Tutorial Staff, whose untiring efforts and devotion helped the students to excel, the organisers said in a media release.
They said:
The ceremony will be held at 7.30 a.m. on 03rd July 2019 at the Kularatne Hall – Ananda College, with the patronage of the Principal S.M Keerthirathne, Management Committee, and the Tutorial Staff. 
“As in the previous years, the Event will be graced by distinguished old Anandians who have excelled in their respective disciplines to give recognition to the recipients who are being felicitated and to boost the morale and motivate the present student population to achieve greater heights. The distinguished Old Anandians who will be attending the ceremony are-
Ravinatha Aryasingha - Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Prof. Ajith Dolage - Dean/Faculty of Engineering Technology/ Open University of Sri Lanka
Prof. Ishan De Soyza - Faculty of Medicine - University of Colombo 
Dr Preethi Wijegoonewardene - Past President – Sri Lanka Medical Association 
S. D. W Gunawardena - General Manager, Ceylon Electricity Board
Major General Nilantha Hettiarachchi - Sri Lanka Army
Kularatna Ariyawansa - Senior Lyricist
Ananda College recorded the highest percentage by any school island-wide, with 143 students gaining Distinctions in all three subjects; 52 students from the Mathematics Stream, 32 students from the Bio Stream, 42 students from the Commerce Stream, 10 students from the Engineering Technology Stream and 07 from the Arts Stream. On the other hand, it is noteworthy that among these 143 students there’s the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 9th Island ranked in the Engineering Technology stream, 6th in Biology stream, 8th in Arts stream and 10th in Commerce stream respectively. The College has achieved remarkable success at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examinations over the last decade recording the highest number of admissions to Universities in the country.”
