The 44th Charter Celebrations of Lions Club of Modera Mattakkuliya was held on February 16, 2019, at Grand Oriental Hotel, Colombo 1.
This event was highlighted with the presence of the Governor of District 306B1, Lion Deva Peter, MJF MAF who was the Chief Guest at the event. The guest of honour being the Past international Director Lion Sunil Watawala PMJF. This ceremonial meeting was chaired by Lady Lion Priyanthi Perera which added more glamour to the proceedings.
This being the most awaited event in the Lionistic calendar of the club; it was represented by 11 Past District Governors, Senior Cabinet Officers, Club presidents and other distinguished guests.
On this very special day, the club did felicitate the members who have been in membership for over twenty years. The distinguished gathering was delighted when Lion Francis Gunasekera MJF who has been in the membership for 40 years was honoured by the club. Lion Leenus De Silva (27 years of membership), Lion Suren Jacob (27 years of membership), Lion Ashley Mendis (25 years of membership), Lion S Renganathan PMJF (23 years of membership) Lion Mahendra De Silva (22 years of membership) were also felicitated by the club.
The club also honoured the Past Governors who were present, in keeping with the events scheduled as per the Lionistic Calendar.
For the past 44 years, Lions of Modera Mattakkuliya has created the “We Serve” environment throughout the Modera Mattakkuliya area by extending a hand for especially needed people in the Community. President Lion Suren Jacob in his speech, elaborated on the service projects of the club and said “in our efforts in uplifting the lifestyle of less privileged, our major concerns are to prevent blindness –“Sight for Kids”, caring for elders, caring for children etc, “Lankabroek Children’s Home”, Andigama, collaboratively run by the club, house 18 girl children and gives them a home away from home feeling, a good education and love and care.” “Save the environment” - carrying out meaningful eco-friendly projects is another area focused.
