‘Great, the jock and the cheerleader. Now it’s a real breakfast club,’ announces the teacher presiding over detention, sarcastically. After the goth girl of the group tries to label everyone by their clique, Kym (Keke Palmer) interjects, ‘Don’t you dare try stuffing me in one of or your boxes.’ The new trailer also hints at the way slasher films have historically punished teenagers for premarital sex and romantic dalliances. ‘Just promise me you’re good, that it’s not like last time,’ says Deion’s mother, played by Mary J. Blige. ‘I’m good, I’m not seeing girls anymore,’ he replies.

But something sinister is afoot when he finds a folded note in h is locker that simply reads: ‘Trick or Treat.’Speaking with his new group of misfit friends, Deion reveals, ‘I had a brother named Marcus, but we went out on Halloween when we were kids,’ he says, as there’s a montage of a deadly hook scratching against a car door. ‘I left my twin brother to die.’ After revealing his dark secret, we see his phone start to ring. ‘Man, who is this?’ he screams after answering. ‘Trick or treat, Deion,’ intones a sinister voice. ‘Are you curious about who I’m going to kill?’ the voice asks as there’s a montage of the Ghostface mask from the original film terrorising teenagers. ‘Somebody’s wearing this costume, threatening to kill all of us,’ he alerts his friends. ‘We’re going to have to handle this ourselves.’ This new version of Ghostface is technologically literate, and he sends Deion a text message featuring a photo of a dead body, writing, ‘Show me your insides.’ Amir, played by Christopher Jordan Wallace, asks what it means.

‘It means... we’re in a horror movie,’ explains Beth (Giorgia Whigham). ‘Don’t take this the wrong way, but you guys are black — in horror, that’s pretty much an insta-kill.’ Kym shoots back: ‘This here’s a reboot, and reboots don’t play by your rules.’ The trailer ends with a lightning-quick montage of the killer in action, followed by a blood-curdling scream from Deion. Though this is the third season of the Scream reboot series, it’s being present on VH1 more like a miniseries.

The six episodes will be broadcast over three nights in two-hour blocks. An extended sneak peek of Paris Jackson’s role in the season was released earlier on Thursday. She’s seen slicing tomatoes in her kitchen before heading out for Halloween partying. She receives a strange phone call that initially masquerades as a spam call from a phone company, before the caller screams, ‘What’s your favourite scary movie?!’ revealing it’s Ghostface’s voice.

Scream: Resurrection’s first full-length trailer brings a Breakfast Club vibe to the rebooted VH1 horror series... after new Paris Jackson footage drops. The original meta horror film is back, this time in a three-night miniseries for VH1. The first full-length trailer for Scream: Resurrection was released to YouTube on Monday. A sneak peek fleshing out Paris Jackson’s role in the new series was previously released on Thursday. Anyone viewing the new trailer could be forgiving for initially thinking it’s a Breakfast Club remake, not a series reboot of a horror film. The footage opens with series Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler) arriving to class late, only to be sent straight to detention.
