Positioning the building on a piece of land is an essential aspect of good Feng Shui. Putting up the structure at the right place ensures that the quality of energy in and around the home is harmonious. There are many factors which determine these calculations and many variants too.

Primarily the quality of the energy ( chi) is essential hence irrespective of whether the investment is just for the land  or the house already built on the land, the important observation that needs to be made is how the vegetation around the property looks. IS it lush full of life or is it looking barren?  When you see land that is dry with hardly any vegetation thriving on it, this is a sign of low, or inhibited Chi.

If you next observe the shape of the land, a natural shape resembling square or rectangle is considered the best as it allows even flow of energy

The best feng shui positioning is when the house has a slightly raised land behind it, or slightly higher as compared to the land in front of the house. This will resemble the classical Feng Shui land positioning of the Turtle - one of the celestial Feng Shui animals - as protection and good backing for the house. However a building positioned with its back having sloping land is considered bad.

In the classical Feng Shui design, having certain specific land levels around the property enhances certain aspects of the energy flow.

If the house has a large open space in the front it is considered good as it allows good Chi to gather and nourish the house. If the right side of the house is slightly higher that the left side then it allows for good support and prosperity.

If the land at the back of the house is raised,  it is supposed to offer great support to the occupants. On the other hand if the  land is flat on both sides, it is still acceptable and is not considered bad Feng Shui.

At times  a good Feng Shui design can be created  by incorporating the land level principles in the building designs itself.

For example having a tall chimney on the right of the house will make the right side higher and even landscaping can create the same effect through tall vibrant trees or several trees on the right side of the house to simulate a similar Feng Shui effect.

If you next observe the shape of the land, a natural shape resembling square or rectangle is considered the best as it allows even flow of energy.

The shape allows for a harmonious gathering and accumulation of energies and benefits the occupants. Shapes which are considered inauspicious are triangles and shapes that have many missing or cut corners.

Finally a water body large in size close to the house at the back is not good however a water body in front of the house such as a natural lake, river or pond is an excellent Feng Shui enhancer.
