Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge has instructed the Department of Motor Traffic to extend the validity period of driving licences by three months due to Covid-19 pandemic situation.
While issuing an Extraordinary Gazette notification, the Motor Traffic Department advised extending the validity period of all driving licence until December 31.
According to the Gazette notification, The Motor Traffic (Temporary Extension of the Validity Period of Driving License) Regulation No. 03 of 2020 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2180/26 of June 17, 2020, is hereby amended in the Paragraph (b) of regulation 2 thereof by the substitution for the words “to 30th September 2020” of the words “to 31st December 2020”.
