Former Education Minister and MP Bandula Gunawardane today urged the government to utilize the funds allocated to purchase tab computers to purchase modern security equipment so as to ensure the security for school children.
He told parliament that it was the need of the hour to give priority for security purposes of the children than purchasing tab computers.
He said a national plan should be initiated in coordination with all relevant sectors to ensure the security for all school children.
The MP said student turnout was still low where it was less than 10 per cent by today.
"Only 322 students out of 6800 of Homagama Mahinda Rajapaksa College had turned out on Wednesday. Only 506 students of the Royal College and 56 out of 1500 at the Defence Services College had turned out on Wednesday," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
