A 40-year-old Ukranian woman was arrested this morning at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to smuggle gold biscuits worth nearly Rs.20 million into the country, the customs official said.
He said the gold biscuits were found hidden inside the suspect's shoes when she had arrived at the airport.
She was arrested by the customs narcotics unit officers. Customs investigations revealed the woman had visited the country on two previous occasions.
Ten gold biscuits weighing two kg and 320g and 20 biscuits weighing 116g were found hidden in the suspect's footwear, the customs officer said.
