The police arrested two persons today in connection with an incident at Poruthota, in Negombo, yesterday.

There was a tense situation after two groups of people were involved in a clash over a vehicular accident, police said. The police confirmed that no sharp weapons like swords had been used during the clash.

Police curfew had to be imposed within the Negombo Police Division from last evening to today 7.00 am. It was reported that a heated argument between two parties had erupted over an accident involving two motorcycles and a trishaw on the Poruthota Road, along the Negombo coastal stretch in Kochchikade at around 6.00 p.m. last evening, which had developed into a clash.

The Daily Mirror learnt that several shops and a house near the location where the tense situation prevailed, had been damaged following the incident. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
