Two Pradeshiya Sabha members have been arrested by the police in two separate incidents while police are looking for another Pradeshiya Sabha member in connection with the offenses of felling trees in an irrigation reservation.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said a 44-year-old member of the Bandaragama Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested in Raigama in connection with an assault on a disabled army soldier yesterday.
He said the suspect was remanded till April 1 after being produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court.
In another incident, a 43-year-old member of the Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha has been arrested by the Biyagama police in respect of the offenses of criminal trespass and assault on employees of a restaurant at kotunna Road, Biyagama.
DIG Rohana said he was produced before the Judicial Medical Officer and confirmed that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
He will be produced before the Mahara Magistrate’s Court today.
Meanwhile, Baddegama police have arrested a suspect during a special raid conducted in an irrigation reservation at Dolekada in Baddegama police area and a special police team has been deployed to arrest a member of the Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha, who was absconding.
DIG Rohana said 31 logs and an excavator have been taken into custody during the raid.
