The Colombo Trial-at-Bar today fixed the trial of the Welikada Prison massacre case to be heard from October 14, 2019, on all Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Trial-at-Bar comprising Judges Gihan Kulathunga, Pradeep Hettiarachchi and Manjula Thilakarathna also directed to issue summons on witnesses one to four of the prosecution, to be present on October 14, 2019.
Earlier, the Trial-at-Bar allowed the evidence to be heard in absence of the suspect, Imaduwage Indika Sampath, who is absconding court.
The other accused of this case, Moses Nevamal Rangajeewa and Lamahewage Emil Ranjan were present at the court.
During the inquiry, President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne and Nalinda Indatissa raised the question that some of the documents (photos and statements) in connection with the incident have not been provided to the defence.
However, Deputy Solicitor General Dilan Ratnayake told the court that he can provide whatever documents made available to him from the investigators. The court also fixed a calling date on September 20, 2019, to look at the requested documents by the defence. (Shehan Chamika Silva)
