Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka yesterday called for the deporting of 800 foreign Islamic clerics who were engaged in religious teaching at various Madrasas.
He told Daily Mirror that these clerics had arrived on tourist visas, but were engaged in Islamic religious teaching.
“I urge the government to deport them immediately,” the minister said.
Earlier, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said his Ministry would take steps to regulate the Madrasas in the country. (Kelum Bandara)

Dear Champika, you are in the government. Fight for this or resign or face punishment. Choose wisely.

Why just deport? If a Sri Lankan violates visa conditions in any of “those” countries the repercussions will be much more severe. So we need to use the same spoon to serve. Please have some backbones to at least act straight now

No need to regulate! Please send them back. And if some wants to engage in madrasas teaching they can leave the country too.

Why was these foreigners even allowed to give religious education here? Not only Muslim teachers but also the foreign teachers of Christian religions should be deported. In India, foreign religious teachers are banned.

Instead of making an emotional decision, this minister should make a rational one. Review the cases first and then take action.
