Several factories near Kelani River without environmental licences: COPE

While highlighting that 41 factories along the banks of Kelani River are without environmental licences, while the licences of 205 factories have been cancelled, the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) yesterday proposed a joint plan to avoid pollution of the river.

The committee had therefore advised that Ministry of Environment,ministry of Water Supply and the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local bodies to come up with a joint plan to avoid pollution of Kelani River, according to Parliament sources. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardane)
