Considering the current pandemic situation in the country, the Education Ministry has decided to extend the closure of schools until May 7, Education Minister G.L. Peiris said.
The decision was taken after a meeting at the Ministry, a short while ago.
During the meeting, the Minister requested to conduct teaching practices online as it was done recently.
Even though after the reopening of schools, the Ministry is hoping to continue with the online teaching exercises, Minister Peiris said.
Therefore, it is necessary to shorten the August school vacation as much as possible to cover up the syllabus.
The decision of reopening schools on Monday (May 10) will be taken after a discussion on Friday (May 7) at the Ministry, the Minister added.(Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
