Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa who met Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya had informed him that the alliance led by him intended to contest the general election under the name Ape Jathika Peramuna by changing its symbol.
Sources close to Mr. Premadasa told the Daily Mirror that he had informed the polls chief that he intended changing the symbol to the ‘Heart’.
He also said the officer bearers of Ape Jathika Peramuna would also be replaced.
However, the Polls chief had informed him that there was an issue with regard to changing the symbol as the heart was not among the symbols that the commission is left with at the moment. (Yohan Perera)
