The Special Task Force (STF) of Police has seized 20,000 kilos of turmeric smuggled from India this morning at Kurupokuna fishing harbour in Hungama.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said four suspects and a fishing trawler were also taken into custody along with the stock of turmeric.
He said two lorries which had arrived at the location to transport the turmeric were also taken into custody.

what do the authorities do with the stuff we are paying LKR600/- for 100grms. Ensure the confiscated stuff is sold to genuine consumers are at reasonable price.

Do not supply the seized TURMERIC into the local market which will result the local producer to abandon the project. Believe, maybe widely available our local product in a couple of months time.

The captured turmeric can be exported to the other countries in finished form.
