Former CID Director SSP Shani Abeysekera has been interdicted with immediate effect, the National Police Commission said.
It said there was an ongoing investigation being carried out by the Police into the controversial telephone conversations with MP Ranjan Ramanayake and added the decision was taken to facilitate the investigations.
Mr. Ramanayake was initially arrested by the police on charges of possessing an expired pistol without a valid licence.
However, it was later revealed by several government MPs that he was to be arrested for some audio clips and phone conversations with several top police officials requesting them to arrest several individuals and had attempted to influence court proceedings. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
