The Sri Lankan embassy in Italy remains attentive towards its expatriates living in that country after Italian Government decided on Saturday to lock down Lombardy province and 14 other provinces to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Out of the 104,000 Sri Lankans living in Italy and about 60 percent of them live in Lombardy Province where there is a rapid spread of corona is reported.
The Acting Sri Lanka Ambassador in Italy Sisira Senavirathna said their constant attention is being focused over the developments.
“The situation is supervised to ensure the safety of Sri Lankans through the Sri Lankan Embassy in Rome and Consular Office in Milan.,” he said.

Sixteen million of people are to undergo 14 day Quarantine period and the residents are banned from entering or departing from these provinces from the beginning of April.
Venice - a major tourist attraction is also located in the lock-down province where most of Sri Lankan in Italy resides.
Schools remain closed and sport events and religious and cultural activities have been suspended.
The death toll recorded due to corona virus has increased to 233 - the highest number of deaths after China while the number of corona virus infected is 5883 by yesterday.(Thilini De Silva)
