The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) must understand that its members may lose their membership in United National Party (UNP) because its constitution states that UNPers cannot obtain the membership of another party, former UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara said today.
He told a news conference that the SJB has actually formed another party instead of an alliance and being more or less a political party those who join it could lose their membership in the UNP.
"I am prepared to hold a public debate with SJB leader Sajith Premadasa," he said adding that he would prove everything that had taken place in public recently where the UNP and the SJB was concerned.
Former MP Daya Gamage said we still hope that the two groups would resolve their issues and contest the general election as a united front.
He said he would contest the election from the Colombo District while his wife former MP Anoma Gamage will contest from the Digamadulla District.
Incidentally, Mr Gamage contested the 2015 election from Digamadulla while his wife entered Parliament through the national list. (Yohan Perera)

What binds this mob is the need to get rid of Ranil. The policies they stand for tantamount to nothing. How exactly can this messy mob help my Country at this precarious juncture?

SJB is not a party but a coalition of parties. Even the jokers of UNP cannot understand this, how can they rule the country?
Arthur G Tuesday, 10 March 2020 07:43 PM
Even together this election won't make success to UNP ,if this government do some acceptable work for Bond scam, Mig fighter aircraft and Srilankan airline issues which voters watching very carefully, therefore better let SP and his group go,while saving UNP for true supporters
Buddhist Tuesday, 10 March 2020 07:51 PM
SJB was created by UNP after voting so whats wrong. May be Ranga Bandara was asleep then.

UNP members can join an alliance while being a member of the UNP. What action was taken by the UNP hierarchy when Wijedasa Rajapakse

Fear psychosis of those who back RW. If the SJP was formed with the blessings of the UNP Working Committe where RW is the head for UNPers to contest under one unbrella coalition with other parties supporting RW group is taking rubbish

What is the point in hanging on to the elephant when it has lost for the last 30 years or so under RW. Who cares about being an UNP or not. The people needs someone from any party to serve the people and not its members like in the past five years. What did you politicians do for the people. Only lip service and broken promises. RW should be taen into custody for the bond scam.
